This is a reproduction of an incredibly common item in the 19th century, the tin pan. Ours is a copy of the pan that was salvaged from the U.S.S. Cairo wreck. We had the die made specifically to reproduce this plate, and are excited to be offering it at such a great price. Our plate is made from tin and is pressed out to the exact size of the plate recovered from the Cairo wreck.
These are approx. 1 1/4 deep and 6 11/16 diameter across the bottom.

A great addition to the mess chest. Inexpensive stamped tin pans look good along side the hand made pans that I already had. It is good to have a variety as it gives the put together over time appearance. A good value on a copy of an attributed object.
How different is this? To think that it is modeled from one found aboard USS Cairo makes it special, so there's no questioning authenticity here. This will be another item that will be great for public viewing during some of our encampments. Having a variety of items showing invites questions, that that leads to public education - something that we do.
