Own a Piece of American Civil War History with Our Joseph Arnold Handkerchief Reproduction!

Step back in time and experience the rich history of the American Civil War with our Joseph Arnold Handkerchief Reproduction. This meticulously crafted handkerchief is a direct replica of a cherished artifact currently in the collection of the Oshkosh Public Museum. With a portion of the proceeds supporting the museum, this item not only connects you to the past but also helps preserve our shared history.

? Product Features:

  • Historical Significance: This reproduction handkerchief is based on an original handkerchief used by Joseph Arnold, a soldier who served in the 1st Wisconsin Infantry and later the 26th Wisconsin Infantry during the American Civil War. Arnold's poignant letter from August 27, 1864, mentions a handkerchief received from his mother, which may very well be this one.

  • Museum Collaboration: We are honored to have received permission from the Oshkosh Public Museum to reproduce this handkerchief. A portion of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to the museum to support their efforts in preserving and sharing our historical heritage.

  • Authentic Design: Our reproduction is made from heavier cotton cloth to match the original handkerchief’s feel and durability. The design reflects the handkerchief’s original appearance, with restored vibrant colors that closely replicate the handkerchief’s 1863 look.

  • Expert Restoration: As noted by Archivist Scott Cross, this reproduction is a flawless reflection of the original handkerchief’s design and colors. The red color has been estimated and color-corrected, while the yellow and brown hues have been faithfully recreated based on extensive research and expert analysis.

  • Historical Context: Joseph Arnold was a dedicated soldier who participated in significant battles and campaigns, including Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the March to the Sea. His post-war life saw him as a prominent member of the Grand Army of the Republic, further embedding him into American Civil War history.

  • Generous Size: Measuring 21 x 19 inches, this handkerchief is true to the dimensions of the original historical artifact.

? Why You’ll Love This Handkerchief:

  • Historical Connection: Own a piece of Civil War history with a handkerchief that was carried through battles and campaigns, directly linking you to the past.

  • Museum Collaboration: Your purchase supports the Oshkosh Public Museum, helping to preserve and present important historical artifacts.

  • Expertly Crafted: Made from heavy cotton cloth, this reproduction captures the look, feel, and colors of the original handkerchief as it appeared in the 1860s.

  • Detailed Restoration: The colors and patterns have been expertly restored to reflect the handkerchief’s appearance when it was first used, providing an authentic historical experience.

It's very nice. High quality reproduction that allows me to enjoy our nations history by owning and using the smallest items of material culture. I can recommend this one enough.

One of the nicest replica handkerchiefs I have seen! I hand-washed and rinsed it it three times, and the color stopped running just fine. A tremendous addition to my late-war impression!

It's great to be able to carry a handkerchief of the type that was possibly carried in the Atlanta Campaign. One problem with the product though, you need to do a better job setting the red color. Fortunately I was warned beforehand that the red would run so I didn't end up with pink drawers. Had to soak the handkerchief in salt water 3 times to set the color. If I had wiped my face before setting the color it would have looked like I had a head wound.
