Historic Rubberized Rain Cape Inspired by Lt. Col. James Deems

Immerse yourself in history with our meticulously crafted rain cape, inspired by the original rubberized cape once owned by Lt. Col. James Deems of the 1st Maryland Cavalry (US). This piece is modeled after the cape worn before, during, and after the cavalry campaigns at Brandy Station and Gettysburg.

Key Features:

  • Historical Inspiration: Modeled after Lt. Col. James Deems' rain cape
  • Durable Material: Made from high-quality rubberized cotton cloth for superior weather protection.
  • Functional Design: Features buttoned flaps allowing the wearer’s arms to pass through, ideal for cavalry or anyone needing arm mobility while protected from the elements.
  • Hand-Finished Details: Hand-finished buttonholes and rivet-style metal buttons reminiscent of original rubberized clothing.
  • Interior Options: Choose between two versions:
    • Standard Cape: Traditional design with flaps for arm mobility.
    • Pocketed Cape: Includes flaps that open to interior pockets for convenient storage.

Additional Information:

  • Lined Interior: Blue or Brown and natural checked cotton lining adds a touch of period accuracy and comfort.
  • Size Flexibility: The cape is designed to offer a comfortable fit across various chest sizes due to its cape style. For example, a size 40 cape fits comfortably on someone with a 46-inch chest, allowing ample mobility.

    Rain Cape

This cape is awesome. I purchased it to do a Wide Awakes impression but ended up using it for what it was intended for, keeping me dry in the rain. And it did just that.

    A handy and versatile cape!

Posted by Franklin Van Valkenburg on 10th Dec 2019

This cape has come in handy in both wet and cold conditions, proving its worth in a number of ways that makes it a neat piece to have on hand for a number of impressions and events throughout the year. While a bit fancier than a painted or gum blanket worn as a poncho, it's perfect for officer and civilian impressions!

While my pards struggled to keep gum blankets on their shoulders, and eventually ended up soaked anyway when the gum soaked through, I was at ease, dry and comfortable under my rain cape. Totally worth the investment!!
