We are excited to offer another commonly seen style of mid 19th century rubberized raincoat. Ours is taken from the raincoat that is in the Steamboat Bertrand collection. The coat is made of rubberized cotton cloth and is double breasted with two exterior pockets. coat is marked on the inside with the Standard Rubber Company stamp. The original coat featured hard rubber buttons. Unlike the coats some vendors are offering, our coat features hand sewn button holes. Due to the lack of a suitable reproduction hard rubber button currently, ours features black composite buttons that are very similar in appearance to the hard rubber buttons. Original hard rubber buttons are available on ebay and in antique shops if the customer wishes obtain them for their coat and replace the composite buttons.

Note - If your size is not in stock at the time of order, a wait of 4-6 weeks may be necessary. Please understand this before ordering, as we cannot accept mid-order cancellations because an item doesn't make it to you for a particular event.

Bertrand Double Breasted Raincoat - AWESOME QUALITY!

I received my Bertrand Style Double Breasted Raincoat and couldn't be more pleased with the quality! The raincoat is very well made and sheds water perfectly, keeping me completely dry on rainy days at events. Contact Chris before ordering to discuss sizing. He advised me to order one size larger to accommodate the bulk of a sack or frock coat, and his advice was spot on as the coat fits me perfectly, with just a bit of room for ease of movement. I highly recommend this product for anyone needing a 19th century appropriate raincoat.

Good communication with Chris, and the wait was worth it. Fits very well, and a supple garment that’s easy to move in. Rained the day it was delivered, and it does a fine job of shedding the rain. Very well made.

Great looking raincoat

I have not examined the original "Bertrand" example and I have not had the opportunity to try my coat in the rain but this reproduction is well made and fits well. The coat is long, reaching almost to the knee, which I like. This rubber raincoat should also work well as a groundcloth for my civilian impression. As always the service at South Union Mills was excellent and delivery was fast. Thanks for another fine product!

Kept me dry

I wore this coat through two days of steady rain and it did a good job of keeping me dry. Actually this is my second rain coat from South Union Mills, the first was a size 48 and it was a bit snug over my four button blouse and accouterments. I ordered the current coat in size 52 and other than the sleeves being a bit long, it fit well. And then there is the great customer service that I received from Chris and his staff. Yes I am one very happy South Union Mills customer.
