There are several examples of plan linen or cotton towels being carried by soldiers or sold by sutlers during the war. I have one in my personal collection that was carried by a Massachusetts soldier and is like this one, a natural "oatmeal" color. This 100% linen towel is 13x21 and is a good utility towel to have for various uses.

Natural Linen Towel
A nicke heavy fabric that will give excellent wear through lots of use. Linen is an under represented fabric in the living history area.
