This style of vest is extremely common during the Civil War period, but for some reason has been rarely reproduced when compared to the shawl collar vest. An examination of photos will show that many men were wearing this type of vest at the time of the Civil War, as opposed to the shawl collar vest. Our vest is made from your choice of cloths with a brown polished cotton backing (except for linen vest, and they are backed with linen). 7 button front with button choice of cloth covered or brass coin, and the button holes are hand sewn. A great vest at a great price!
Sizing info: this garment is sized in chest size, similar to modern sport or suit coats. 19th century waistcoats or vests fit closely and much shorter than modern vests and many “reenactor” versions of vests. They fit this way because your trousers are supposed to come up very high in the waist, to at least your navel or belly button. Our garments are sized and cut period correct, so they’re going to fit like they should to the period. Please keep this in mind when choosing your size. If your trousers don’t come up as high as period trousers, you can request us to add a couple inches in the length of the body of the vest. Please do that in the customer comments.
