Delve into Civil War history with our reproduction of the "Cantel" style leather canteen, originally patented on October 14, 1862, by New York leather worker Lazare Cantel. Crafted with meticulous attention to historical accuracy, this canteen faithfully replicates the design of the original "improved" canteen.

Features:

  • Material: Molded leather with food-grade aluminum lining (thin, as per original design that was lined with tin)
  • Construction: Joined with copper rivets for durability
  • Spout: Pewter spout for authenticity
  • Carrying Sling: Leather sling for convenience
  • Historical Accuracy: Based on the patented design by Lazare Cantel
  • Safety Note: Aluminum lining is extremely thin and food grade, similar to the original metal foil sheeting

Specifications:

  • Dimensions: Standard Civil War era canteen size
  • Color: Natural leather with pewter spout
  • Authenticity: Designed to replicate a lesser-known Civil War era canteen
  • Usage: Ideal for historical reenactments, living history displays, and collectors
  • Price: $129.99

    So far so good

Posted by John Marler on 1st Sep 2024

Recently purchased this canteen for an upcoming event. I've thoroughly clean the interior, aged the exterior, and am now waiting to use it in the field. I'm very pleased with this canteen so far. It presents exactly as advertised. The bent brass wire holding the chained cork has sharp ends that can be painful when grabbing the canteen. Otherwise, it is good-to-go!
