Early 19th Century Trousers

Our early 19th century trousers are fall front straight legged trousers that would have been commonly worn by workmen and dandies of the period, alike.  These trousers are designed for the waistband to be worn just above natural waist (i.e. above hip bones/navel area so please give your waist circumference in this area when ordering). They have a "V" tie adjustment in the back and a watch pocket.  Button holes and some finishing is done by hand.

Note - We try to keep several sizes in stock.  If your size is not in stock at the time of order, a wait of 4-6 weeks may be necessary.

Sizing information:  Like all of our trousers, these trousers are sized at NATURAL WASTE size, which is your true waist at the navel (bully button).  That usually will not be what your modern jean size is.  Jean sizes have "vanity" inches built in, so please measure your waist with a tape and make sure of your actual natural waist size before you order.  For example, if you wear a modern jeans size of 38, your natural waist might be a 40 or 42.

    Well Made

I just bought another pair of these trousers for my 19th century impression as a Texian militaman of the Texas Revolution (1835-36). A few years ago, I bought a pair in size 40. I slimmed down to a size 36, so I needed a replacement. These trousers are well made and fit perfectly. I hope to wear them at my next reenactments in the spring.

These are nicely made. The only issue's were that their about 4" too long and the legs will need to be narrowed.

    Early 19th Cent Trou

Excellent communication, arrived quickly. Good fit. I think I'm going to miss the pockets tho! I've now got about 10 articles of clothing from SUM and I'm always pleased. I'm going to try to make late 18th century breeches out of this pair. My only criticism would be the cloth "Off White", the same as my previously purchased waistcoat and trousers, which I wear to balls and the like. To me "Off White" could be anything not "Snow White" - but this woolen has tiny threads of dark color in the white and to me it always looks "dirty" when I look closely at it - even fresh from the cleaners! My only "complaint"..

    Surprisingly comfortable!

Posted by J Marcos Salaverria on 21st Nov 2021

These trousers fit perfect, as well were more comfortable than expected. I am more accustomed to the 18th century than the 19th century. Knowing the higher period era fit I was nervous. Should not have been these trousers sit well and are both warm yet breathable. Highly recommend as they can be used for multiple interpretations
