Double Breasted Men's Paletot

Paletots were extremely popular in the mid 19th century.  In the 1840s one observer noted "Paletots, yet more paletots, more paletots still! They have become more fashionable for every class, for every hour of the day, for every occasion."  The difference in a sack coat and a paletot is that the paletot fits the body more closely, similar to a frock coat.  These are great coats for a great price.

Our SUM reproduction mid 19th century paletot is patterned from several originals from the period.  Our reproduction is made with 100% woolen cloth, hand finished button holes, your choice of buttons and a polished cotton lining. Our coats feature 3 functioning exterior pockets.

Sizing info: this garment is sized similar to modern sport or suit coats, so choose your chest size and keep in mind if you are going to be wearing a vest under the coat.  Also take into account if you have an unusually long or short sleeve length, let us know that information in the customer comments.

    Excellent Coat

Normally do a “campaigner” Union soldier impression so period correctness including clothing is important to me. Recently did my first civilian impression and needed a civilian coat to meet my standards but did not have time to have one made or unlimited funds. Luckily South Union Mills had a Paletot my size in stock and could not have been more pleased. Both the material and construction are high quality including visible areas being hand sewn such as the button holes. The price was also very reasonable. So if your looking for a good quality civilian coat I would certainly recommend South Union Mills. Joe Musgrove North Little Rock, Arkansas

    Classy Dress Coat

I do not do a civilian impression but could not resist the aesthetics of this coat. I actually purchased it to wear as a coat to the office on chilly days. While not a heavy overcoat for the dead of winter, being in North Texas it should serve nicely for most of fall and early spring wear. It is very well made and fits superbly. Excellent coat with great looks and I look forward to wearing it this fall.
