    18th c. hand-sewn checked linen shirt

Posted by Glenn Siner on 26th Feb 2025

Firstly, the shirt was excellently made and conformed to what one would expect in an 18th century shirt; two-holed button collar with thread buttons, sleeve gussets, narrow (1/2" +-) cuffs, hand-sewn exposed seams, etc. The overall length and that of the neck slit are good, and while I found that the "L" size could have been a tad bigger for me (I'm a size 44"), an "XL" would have definitely been way too big. My only critique would be that while the sleeve length on the size large was perfect, I found the sleeve opening on the buttoned cuff closure to be too loose at the wrist, something I will have to modify and correct myself. I otherwise found the garment to be well worth the money, expertly crafted, and an item that I would happily purchase again... Well done SUM!

Purchase the size Medium with a 46 inch Chest and 17 inch neck. Fits like it was made for me. The sewing is top notch.
