    18th/early 19th Century pocket knife

I am very happy with this knife, both for it's utilitarian purposes as well as it's authenticity. I like the small one so much, I got the large on as well! So I can use it for some of the heavier duty projects like cutting rope, etc....

Great little knife for the price!

The small sized version of this period styled pocket knife is a really great knife for the money. A good size to carry every day. It’s easy to open, came very sharp. It does need to be carefully closed by hand to assure the blade correctly reseats in the handle.

Very solid and authentic piece. The only one available at this price that uses steel instead of brass bolsters.

    Sturdy period appropriate knife

These are very much in the spirit of the originals, made to use daily. Carbon steel sharpens up well, will darken with use and holds an edge. Like working knives from the period, these should be closed gently rather than allowing the spring to snap them shut, which may blunt the blade. Oil the joint and it will serve you well.

    Absolute must have

Posted by Caleb Miller on 26th Feb 2019

For those looking for an affordable, accurate knife representing the type common to the 18th century, they should look no further than the one offered by South Union Mills. It's a very well built little knife, the blade comes oiled and with a good edge to start on, and sharpens down very well. Highly recommended. If I had to pick one thing to improve upon, it would be the alignment of the blade in the closed position; it tends to want to close a little off-center, and needs to be guided back into its groove. Otherwise, A+!

Small Knife: A "Must Have" Item!

Posted by Captain David Sulin on 13th Dec 2018

I just received this knife in the smaller size. I am extremely pleased by the very high quality at such a reasonable price. Again the good folks at SUM have supplied the reenacting community with another "must have" item with "the look" that many of us strive for. The knife comes well sharpened and ready for service. I can understand why it is hard to keep them in stock. You won't regret this purchase. This knife would make a great gift for a company pard or an end of season award to a messmate who has gone above the norm for the sake of others.

    Large knife review

Posted by David Quin on 4th Sep 2018

Finding the proper, period correct pocket knife is somewhat difficult. I have looked for one for years, especially my ancestor, who served in the Union Army, sold them after the war. This is a nice, accurate knife. I bought the larger of the two and am looking forward to using it.
